Hepatitis B Vaccination Program Postponed

Hepatitis B Vaccination Grade 7 Prevention Program for 2010/2011 Postponed

Due to a global shortage of Hepatitis B vaccine, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (the ministry) has announced a postponement of the grade 7 school-based Hepatitis B immunization program. The ministry’s focus is to ensure that Hepatitis B vaccine is available for high risk groups in Ontario. This has been achieved; however, the extended limited vaccine availability will not support the grade 7 school-based Hepatitis B immunization program in the 2010-2011 school year.

The grade 7 Hepatitis B immunization program will be postponed until the ministry announces that Hepatitis B vaccine availability has resumed. Algoma Public Health will let you know when the Hepatitis B program can resume.

The grade 7 meningococcal program will continue as per usual and involves only 1 dose of vaccine. This will be administered to the Grade 7 students with the first round of Gardasil for the Grade 8 girls.
